Taken at the annual ethnic day in Auckland. Quite the best 3 hours shooting I have done for many a long day.

I like the apprehensive look on this woman's face.

Mark Brimblecombe 6/2/07 This photos has a lovely mystical 'Lord of the Rings' feel to it. Remnants of Middle Earth. I think the exposure and composition are very good. The light (sun or moon) and its reflection is great.
Doug Moulin 31/1/07

A lovely evening shot. I like the pastel tones. I would like to see the tire marks cropped from the bottom and a small amount cropped from the top. I find the reflection in the water too dominating and I wonder Bill, if you considered taking another exposure for the reflection and combining them in Photoshop.

John Barnes
Karen Talbot 4/1/07

I am not sure about this seascape. Perhaps it needed to be taken a little earlier with the moon nearer the horizon. Perhaps a different angle...not sure what makes it uncomfortable.

Bill Hodges 10/1/07

Taken just at the right time capturing the colours. Good exposure.   Love to have seen a bird in flight in the image. But we can’t have every thing. Just feel its needs something else in the image.

Peter McMahon 5/2/07

interesting moody image with nice composition and colour. A few areas of adjustment would improve and make for a stronger image.[1] more contrast [2] remove noise from foreground. [try magenta reduction ] [3] remove tyre marks from foreground

Shona Kebble 16/1/07

This is a lovely place.  I wonder if you could have explored different angles as the image seems to be a bit 'all in a row' but I do like the placement of the moon.

Mark Brimblecombe 6/2/07 Glad to see you haven't been tempted to use the healing brush on this. While the colour is good, I think this would look better in B & W. Excellent composition with the hair and its endings near the chin.
Doug Moulin 31/01/07

Nothing could be done to improve this shot. It's great. The apprehensive expression has been captured beautifully. It would make a great black & white.

John Barnes
Karen Talbot 4/1/07

I personally don't do a lot of portaiture, but this Bob, would be one of the most expressive and beautiful faces I have seen for a long time. Perhaps a smidgeon off the right hand side to take off the background - have to find something to say as a critique.   :-)

Bill Hodges 10/1/07

Well cropped image. Just enough of the face to give overall depth of interest. Well exposed giving good skin tone.

Peter McMahon 5/2/07

wonderful strong image, with good title. Love the clarity in the eyes. just a tidy up of spots around the face, which can sometimes be overlooked.

Shona Kebble 16/1/07

20/6/07

A stunning shot.  You have framed the face well with the hair and caught an expression which make you question what is going on.

This is a lovely portrait well framed with the hair.  The eyes have it.

Taken: January 2006 at Symphony in the Park of a couple dancing on stage in front of the orchestra.
Camera: Nikon D100 with Nikon 80-400 lens set at 350mm
Orig File: Fine JPEG
Exposure: 1 sec @ f11 at 400 ISO in on stage artificial light

Bob's  Comments:

Purposely taken with a slow shutter speed to show movement with camera set to automatic colour temperature.  Taken into Photoshop and played with somewhat to alter colour and filtration, etc, to further soften image, etc, etc, to achieve a sense of the dance flow.

Mark Brimblecombe 15/09/06 Shocking... until I disregarded the subject and enjoyed the shapes. Bob, how does it work in B&W? The colour enhances the artificial nature of the subject, which B&W might largely remove (a desired effect in my opinion). Nice bold composition.
Doug Moulin 29/10/06

Well seen and photographed. Nice lighting and shadows, making a striking image. A small crop at the bottom, about halfway between the bottom and the shadow of the fingers, improves the balance, I think. I agree it would also make a great B&W.

John Barnes 11/10/06

This image holds a lot of intrigue. Who is the person behind the hand? The shadows cast from the fingers and chain adds to the overall mystique. Maybe it would have worked better in B/W, I am not sure as the artificial light touched up in Photoshop has produced pleasing colour contrast

Karen Talbot 10/10/06

An unusual image, but I like the directional light.I also think it would have great strength as a B and W.

Bill Hodges 25/9/06

The image certainly has impact, Like the way the hand comes into the frame. Maybe a little shading on the bottom right & left corners to match the top right.  And yes  it would make a great B&W.

Peter McMahon 23/9/06 Dramatic, nice lighting, colour with sharp vivid detail. Would also like to see b&w version
Shona Kebble 28/10/06

A great shot.  An opportunity well seen and the V shape in the image in pleasing to the eye.

Mark Brimblecombe 15/09/06 Great image. I wonder how many shots it took to get this one? The dancers are in the perfect position and your exposure has left them just recognisable. Wonderful colours and Photoshop work. This is one of those photos where the more I look at it the more I enjoy it.
Doug Moulin 29/10/06

A good abstract image, well exposed and composed. An image that makes us use our imaginations. I agree with Bill that the line through the bride needs tidying up in Photoshop.

John Barnes 11/10/06

It took me a while to come to grips with this image. The whole image is blurred (deliberately) but I would have liked to have seen a dancer or part of the orchestra in focus to give it perspective.

Karen Talbot 10/10/06

The more I look at this the more I like it. Love the colours and obviously the movement. Personally I would have liked something in focus, maybe a face.

Bill Hodges 25/9/06

Lots of movement giving the image Drama & excitement.  The line going into the brides dress could be taken out in photoshop. Good technique  oveall.

Peter McMahon 14/10/06

an interesting image showing nice colour and movement. Without the comment, found difficulty deciding what I was looking at.

Shona Kebble 28/10/06

I think this image is very successful.  I love the flowing movement and the colours set it off nicely.
